A sinkhole is a depression or hole in the ground caused by some form of collapse of the surface layer, decomposing debris, erosion/drainage issues. In a residential application, developers and builders buried construction debris e.g. stumps scrap wood which over time possibly years have decomposed leaving a void. In most applications using a machine to dig our remaining debris if any, pack down the depression, following with fill dirt, topsoil, or ground cover, leaving finish grade higher than surrounding grade to account for future settling. Do not let sinkholes on your property cause you problems. Contact West Palm Beach Foundation Repair today for a free estimate on our sinkhole repair services.

Sinkhole Inspection

In a sinkhole inspection, your property is reviewed to determine whether it is experiencing sinkhole activity. Sinkholes are a completely natural occurrence. They occur when slightly acidic rainwater or groundwater gnaws away at limestone or other rock between ground surface dirt and flowing water. Sinkholes may be caused by a sudden and unexpected drop in the water table. Sinkholes sometimes leave subtle and, at times, substantial structural damage. An inspection can often reveal early signs of structural damage.

Compaction Grouting

In order to ensure that the thick mixture of cement remains tightly incorporated with the soil, it must also fill any cracks or holes. Before the grout can be applied, the cement must be sealed off from the top of the limestone layer. The compaction grout is laid down in layers as part of the process of removing the casings, leaving the resulting hole progressively drier. Once the casings are removed from the ground, they are also loaded back onto the trailer, and they are then removed from the repaired parcel of land.

Sinkhole Remediation

It is important to pay attention to sinkholes as they are extremely dangerous. Small voids, settlings, and cracks at the surface, when they are not checked, could indicate a larger, more dangerous void below the surface. The area should be secured and professional sinkhole remediation should be contacted when there are signs of settling or a hole near the surface.
